Submit Your Film

We are constantly reviewing potential films for us to edit in our six-week course, and we relish the opportunity to work with new filmmakers.  We encourage interested directors to submit their work for consideration and are more than happy to discuss questions about possible submissions over the phone.

Submission Guidelines

FOR FEATURE-LENGTH NARRATIVES

1. A printed copy of the script.

2. Two to three shooting tapes (DV-CAM, mini-DV, or VHS format). We ask for complete shooting tapes so that we can get a sense of the coverage (in quantity and in style) of the film. If you shot on video, these should be direct dubs of the shooting tapes that were in the camera. If you shot on film, these should be two to three tapes' worth of telecined footage.

3. A breakdown of all scenes by number; in adjacent columns, please list how many camera angles and takes were shot to cover the scene.

4. A separate sheet of paper with the following information: a) shooting format; b) format of sound files (please indicate if sunk); c) presence of script supervision notes; d) names of cast of crew.

5. Any other materials you think we might find useful in getting a sense of your film. This includes, but certainly is not limited to: FCP logs, a trailer or any already-cut scenes, promotional materials for the film, etc.

FOR FEATURE-LENGTH DOCUMENTARIES

1. A detailed synopsis of the expected storyline.

2. Two to three shooting tapes (DV-CAM, mini-DV, or VHS format). We ask for complete shooting tapes so that we can get a sense of the raw footage. If you shot on video, these should be direct dubs of the tapes that were in the camera. If you shot on film, these should be two to three tapes' worth of telecined footage.

3. A plan for dividing the footage among the students. This is obviously a bit trickier in a documentary than a narrative and should basically be an outline for how to divide the footage into 10-20 logical segments (ie verite scenes, chronological sections, thematic subdivisions, etc).

4. A separate sheet of paper with the following information: a) a brief synopsis of the film; b) number of hours of shot footage; c) names of crew and collaborators.

5. Any other materials you think we might find useful in getting a sense of your film. This includes, but certainly is not limited to: FCP logs, a trailer or any already-cut scenes, promotional materials for the film, etc.
